Fabulous wine, breathtaking waterfalls, and incredible picturesque views, Seneca Lake is the perfect destination to enjoy upstate New York and take in some amazing wineries. Here are five must visit Seneca Lake wineries that I just love. They have incredible wine, knowledgeable staff, and some pretty awesome scenery.
Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyards
This place is number on on my list of 5 Must See Seneca Lake Vineyards for a good reason.
Award winning Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyards is hands down one of my favorite wineries in the area. It has won Winery of the Year eight out of the last twelve years, and it’s easy to see why. The vineyard is beautiful, the tasting room is well appointed and the wine is fabulous.
Their friendly and educated staff go out of their way to provide you with an unforgettable experience. Grab a glass of wine and go walk around the vineyard. It’s a really pretty walk with lots of spots for great photos. While it doesn’t have a view of the expansive lake, the wine itself clearly makes up for that.
I particularly enjoyed the Dry Riesling and the Rosé.
Belhurst Castle and Winery
Once a private residence with a mysterious past, Belhurst Castle and Winery is a magnificent property with three hotels, two restaurants, a spa and salon.
They offer wine tastings as well as beer, and both restaurants have great food. Their staff is amazing and you will learn about their wine, the history of Belhurst Castle, as well as some tips on great must see places in the area.
Take time to walk around the grounds and see just how beautiful the architecture and the scenery is. The view of the lake is wonderful.
Belhurst Castle is located in Geneva, New York towards the top of Seneca Lake. If you have time, be sure to check out the Welcome Center. It offers a wealth of information and is located next to picturesque Seneca Lake State Park.
Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars –
One of my absolute all time favorite wineries. It is without a doubt a must visit winery on Lake Seneca.
Their extremely knowledgeable staff make the tastings just spectacular. They take the time to really describe the incredible wine that you are drinking. You are able to discover the smell, taste and flavor of each selection.
While there are many vineyards in the Finger Lakes, Lamoreaux is one the premier vineyards and is a definite must visit winery.
The wine is just sensational and the views are astounding! While I enjoyed all of their wine, I particularly relished their Block 137 Merlot.
Catharine Valley Winery
I love the feeling of this place! Catharine Valley Winery is a cute boutique winery with a warm and homey vibe. It’s the kind of friendly place that makes you just want to hang out and soak in the great atmosphere and wonderful views of the lake.
If you are sitting indoors, their cute decor of twinkling lights, adorable quotes and plaques will coax you to hang around for a while.
In addition to their good wine, they also offer some really good ciders. Be sure to try their apple pie and pear hard cider. You’ll be glad you did.
Atwater Vineyards
Just down the road from Catharine Valley is a wonderful friendly vineyard that makes some fabulous champagne.
Situated on eighty acres of prime real estate, the views from here are beautiful enough that you never want to leave.
With friendly staff, great bubbly and amazing views, this place can’t be beat!
Watkins Glen State Park
While this is not part of my 5 Must Visit Seneca Lake Wineries, I would be remiss if I didn’t share this amazing place with you.
No trip to Seneca Lake is complete without going to Watkins Glen State Park. The waterfalls are simply magnificent and it is definitely a must see and well worth the stop. With nineteen waterfalls to be seen within a two mile hike, this park is an absolute delight!
Make it your first stop of the day and get there when it first opens. You’ll be able to grab a free parking spot, have the park basically to yourself and be able to take some amazing pictures without a bunch of people in them.
After stopping here, you are sure to be inspired to see more natural beauty. Check out some inspirational quotes to help you start planning.
Dr Konstantin Frank
No trip to Lake Seneca is complete with out a visit to Konstantin Franks. It is a must see and that is why I included in my top 5 must visit wineres.
Located in Hammondsport on Keuka Lake, Dr. Konstantin Frank is an award winning winery that offers an unforgettable experience. While enjoying their award winning wine, you’ll learn all about how Dr. Konstantin changed the course of wine growing in the finger lakes.
This winery has a lot of history in the finger lakes and their love of wine is evident in all they do. I would recommend coming here at least one time.
Be sure to stop and check out the cute little village of Hammondsport. It’s easy to see why it was voted “Coolest Small Town in America” by readers of Budget Travel. It has a plethora of outdoor activities, superb food, excellent wine, not to mention the stellar scenery.
After that, head on over to Weis Vineyard.
Weis Vineyard
Weis is a lovely small winery with a great atmosphere. The tasting room is an old school house that is just adorable inside. Peter, who is the owner/winemaker did our tasting and it was a great experience learning all about this german style wine.
Be sure to try the Ice Wine Riesling. It is amazing!
Next door to the tasting room is an adorable converted barn for your wine enjoyment. Outside they have picnic tables and adirondack chairs to sit back and enjoy the views.
The Finger Lakes region is an amazing area with fabulous wineries and stellar views. The laid back vibes and friendly people will make you want to come back again and again .
