The Ten Best Things to do in Charlotte

From Freedom Park to the U.S. National Whitewater Center to endless dining spots, Charlotte, North Carolina has it all.

The 15th largest city in the United States offers endless outdoor activities with year round sunny blue skies and plenty of things to do.

If you’ve never been to the Queen City,(named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenberg, and the wife of King George III), or if you’re just looking for something to do, the options are endless.

Here is my list for Ten of the Best Things to Do in Charlotte!

1.Visit South End

South End is such a fun and lively neighborhood located just south of Uptown Charlotte. What once was a booming textile industry is now home to over 8,000 young professionals. This area is a hub of great restaurants, breweries, and shops that make it a great place to get lost in. Start off by taking a walk alongside the light rail. Here you will get a glimpse of the area and enjoy the sweet scent that fills the air every single day thanks to Carolina Foods, Inc. Their manufacturing warehouse bakes honey buns, donuts, pies and pastries and the subtle aromatic treat is such a delight.

2. Grab a bite to eat.

One of my favorite places is Leroy Fox. Located on Camden Rd and right across the street from the light rail, it is one of my favorite places for brunch. Its southern-inspired cuisine is sure to please even the most finicky of eaters. In the mood for Mexican, Superica is fabulous, as well as the 300 East for american food.

 3. Confetti Hearts Wall

Created by Evelyn Henson in 2018, this 40 foot mural is truly a labor of love and has become an Instagram sensation. Evelyn’s wish is that when you walk away from the mural, you do so not only more joyful, but you are inspired to throw love like confetti.

4. Grab some ice cream!

South Enders have no shortage of delicious ice dream to choose from, but my particular favorite is Jeni’s.  Other delicious options are  Golden Cow Creamery or Two Scoops Creamery. No matter which one you choose, you will not be disappointed! All three have interesting and amazing flavors select from .

5. Grab a seat and people watch.

It’s easy to spend the day just people and dog watching! South End is full of young professionals who just love their furry four legged friends. If you are a golden retriever fan, this is your place to be!

6. Grab a scooter and explore Dilworth.

Hop on a scooter and go! If you are new to riding scooters, they are easy to learn and a fun way to get around. Download the app, follow the instructions, and you will be on your way in no time.

Dilworth is adjacent to South End, and one of Charlotte’s hottest neighborhoods. It’s tree lined streets are filled with a combination of craftsmen to modern homes, and every single one of them is cuter than the next. Beauty and allure will delight you as you ride by. There are wine bars, coffee shops and eateries scattered about, all with equal charm.

7. Head to a brewery.

Charlotte is home to a ton of breweries and the South End is home to some of the best.

Sycamore is one of the most popular breweries and is always bustling. It has a great location right by the light rail, and has plenty of outdoor room for cornhole. Another great place to check out is the Charlotte Beer Garden featuring three stories and 436 beer taps. Wooden Robot Brewery also has some great brews with an urban farmhouse feel.

8.Freedom Park

The park is an absolute gem! Freedom Park has 98 sprawling acres, a beautiful lake with fountains and bridges, and a plethora of athletic courts.
It is easy to spend the whole day here as there is so much to do! You can choose from walking trails, a nature museum, concerts, barbeques, frisbee, or just throw down a blanket and chill.

9. US National Whitewater Center

If you’re looking for some fun and excitement, head on over to the U.S. National Whitewater Center . It is the world’s premier outdoor facility and is an absolute blast! Spend the day zip-lining, white water rafting, paddle boarding, and kayaking. Such an incredibly fun day! They sell craft brews and often have live music with plenty of space to just relax and chill and take it all in.

10. Noda

Well known as the art district, you will find a variety of eclectic galleries, music venues, funky shops, restaurants, and breweries.

It’s a fun area to walk around and explore. Noda, ( short for the main street North Davidson), has some awesome restaurants, Cabo FishTaco and Haberdish being my two favorites.

Cabo Fish Taco has amazing tacos and their margaritas are out of this world!

Haberdish offers food with a more southern flare and vegetarian options. Noda has two live music venues, and if you are feeling brave, NoDa 101 has karaoke 7 days a week.
