How To Find The Best Prices On Airfare
If you know anything about me, you know that I love to get a great deal on airfare. I love the entire process of deciding where to go and then doing the research to find the best price. I love watching the prices fluctuate and then deciding when to buy.
My obsession with finding the best prices on flights is finding out just how good of a deal can I get.
The best flight search engines
Google flights
Google Flights is my first stop when I am looking for flights. I like its flexibility and the fact it is very user friendly. It allows you to easily make changes and see which destinations and dates offer the best prices.
You could enter multiple airports in the “from and to” section and it will give you an idea of which airports have the cheapest flights. If you are really open to an adventure, you can put in the departing airport and then just leave the where to open. You will see prices as you move your mouse over the map.
Kayak
Kayak is nice because you can enter the airport, the number of stops, and it gives you prices at different websites such as Priceline, Expedia and Hotwire.
Be flexible with your dates. Sometimes by just adjusting your flight by a day, your flight can be a whole lot cheaper.
Skyscanner
Skyscanner is another great search engine. It offers a lot of flexibility and gives you a plethora of flight information and prices right at your fingertips.
You have the option to see the whole month of flights and see when the cheapest time to fly is.
Airfare Watchdog
This is a great site that will watch the prices for you and notify you when great deals pop up.
Frontier, Spirit and Southwest
Check Frontier, Spirit and Southwest on their own website. On Google Flights. Spirit and Frontiers’s prices change so frequently, I find it better to go straight to the website.
If you live close to the airport, and you’re flying Allegiance, Spirit and Frontier, you can also save quite a bit of money buying tickets at the counter.
Find the cheapest airport to fly from
Sometimes by doing a little exploring on Google flights, Skyscanner, or just thinking outside of the box by flying from or into a different airport, can save you a lot of money.
A few easy tips
Spend a few minutes each day checking prices.
I typically spend in total a few hours spanned out over a few weeks when looking at flights. Over that time, you get to see the prices fluctuate and you’ll know when you’re seeing a good deal.
Occasionally, you luck out and see a great price right out of the gate. Don’t hesitate to buy it. It might not be there the next time you look.
Purchase airline tickets direct from the airline. Any changes, refunds or adjustments are easier and cheaper when you deal directly with the airline.
Final thoughts
Airfare can often be one of the biggest expenses of traveling. By taking a little time and doing some research, you can find some great deals! After all, the more you save on your airfare, the more you get to spend on vacation, or on another trip!
