9 Ultimate Destinations for Solo Female Travel

There are many destinations for solo female travel to choose from. Deciding on where to go is a liberating experience and is an exciting start to your incredible journey!

Solo travel is super fun and is definitely something fabulous to experience at least once in your life.  Whether you are going somewhere local or planning your first solo trip abroad, you are going to love it!

Choosing the ultimate destination for your adventure is just the beginning of all the fun that you are going to experience. There are so many magnificent places to choose from! Great destinations for solo female travel should have good access to public transportation, amazing scenery, delicious food, and an abundance of things to see and do.

The anticipation of meeting new and wonderful people, as well as the opportunity to learn and discover so much about yourself, are just some of the many perks of solo travel.

My biggest recommendation in choosing your destination for your solo travel trip is to pick a place that really interests you. Then you can look for airfare and decide between a hostel or a hotel.

Make a list of the things you want to see and do while you are there.

Part of the beauty of traveling alone is that you get to choose what is really important to you.

While safety is a factor for women traveling solo, use your street smarts and you should be fine. Make sure you are alert and appear confident, and do your research. Be cautious and avoid public transportation at night.  If you have to walk alone in the evening, walk relatively close to a family or a couple. Most of all, know your limits.

Here are 9 ultimate destinations for solo female travel:

1. Iceland

Iceland is an amazing country and home to breathtaking waterfalls, blue glaciers, and the Northern Lights.

You can bathe in the blue lagoon, drive the Golden Circle, and experience the wonderful capital of Reykjavik. It is a lively city filled with great food, live music, and rich culture.

Iceland has also been named the safest country in the world for the past twelve years.

It is one of my top recommended destinations for traveling alone as a woman.

2. Italy -Truly an ultimate destination for the solo female traveler.

9 Ultimate Destinations for Solo Female Travel

Italy has a plethora of unbelievable food, rich culture, breathtaking scenery, and fabulous wines.

It’s a perfect destination for solo female travel. The public transportation system and Italy’s numerous great places to visit make it a primo spot as a destination for solo female travel.

Whether you decide to cruise along the Grand Canal in Venice, explore the history of Rome, or walk the towns of Cinque Terre, Italy’s options are endless. You can take a cooking class, visit the Colosseum, or tour Lake Como.

Whatever you choose to do, you will not be disappointed one bit!

3. New York City

New York City is one of my favorite places in the world and is the perfect destination for solo female travel.

There is something for everyone in New York City and you will never run out of things to do. The hardest part of planning a trip to NYC is narrowing down what to do with the time that you have there.

Traveling alone in NYC can seem daunting. Once you experience your first subway ride, you’ll soon feel like a native New Yorker. You will feel ready to see all the wonderful places this city has to offer.

From Grand Central Station to Central Park, New York City has it all for the solo traveler.

Some great things to do include walking the High Line, going to the public library, and walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. New York City is home to some magnificent churches, Broadway and the Freedom Tower, not to mention all the excellent museums.

The Big Apple has so much for so many different kinds of people, you are sure to be mesmerized by all that it has to offer.

New York City is also very easy to navigate. Familiarize yourself with how the city is laid out and you’ll know you’re way around in no time.

4. Ireland

Ireland is another great destination for solo female travel in Europe.

Dublin has so many great museums, shopping and not to mention live Irish music.

What’s nice about Ireland is everyone speaks English. The scenery in Ireland is absolutely beautiful too.

Be sure to plan time to see the rest of Ireland by exploring the countryside and the beautiful castles as well. Ireland does not have an extensive railroad system like Italy, so be sure to look into either a guided tour or a solo guided tour.

Ireland is a beautiful country and is a must-see on my list.

Whenever you go, be sure to pack a raincoat and umbrella as Ireland weather changes frequently.

5. New Zealand – A perfect destination for solo female travel!

New Zealand offers so many things to do and see that you’ll have a hard time fitting it all in on one trip.

Its wildlife is incredible, the landscape is breathtaking, and the food is quite delicious. For the female solo traveler that is also an adventurer,  you can try your hand at bungee jumping. Perhaps you would just like to watch if that’s not your thing.

Be sure to check out their Maori culture, as well as their most popular tourist destination, Milford Sound.

New Zealand also offers many hiking opportunities as well as great wineries, and hot springs.

6. European River Cruise

What’s really nice about European river cruises is that you get to see a lot of places in Europe that are particularly beautiful. You would not get to see these spots on a large cruise ship, or if you were traveling by train.

Solo female travel has become very popular on River Cruises and many cruise companies have actually tailored cruises just for solo travelers.

What’s also nice is that you only unpack once.

River cruise ships usually have around 150 to 200 people on board, so the crowd is pretty intimate and you get to meet a lot of people.

7. Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a wonderful city and a great destination for solo female travel. It is a beautiful, compact city that is bursting with culture.  It’s no wonder there are so many things to do! It is home to the Van Gogh Museum, the Museum of Sex, and The Anne Frank House.

The food is fabulous and has many top-notch restaurants. Amsterdam has many theaters and concert halls. It is also known for its canal cruises, floating flower market, and TULIPS!

Make sure you rent a bike and discover Amsterdam as the locals do.

They have city beaches close by, cool flea markets, and are home to Heineken beer.
